Meru National Park
| The rugged landscape of Meru. |
Meru National Park was the home of "Elsa" the lioness, made famous by Joy and George Adamson. It is a very arid park, which attracts animals due to the eleven rivers which flow down from the mountains through the park, and crystal clear palm fringed springs.
Meru is an untamed expanse of wilderness, established in 1966 and covering an area of 870km2 with a variety of wildlife species, and birds.
Regular sightings include- elephant, white rhino, hippopotamus, eland, beisa Oryx, gerenuk, reticulated Giraffe, greater and lesser Kudu. The predators include, lion leopard cheetah and hyena.
Meru has a variety of streams and rivers and we always pitch camp beside one of these beautiful riverine spots. It is a very “untouched” park where game is a little more sparse, but in amongst incredible scenery.
